Assignment #23: CAPSEL's Final Report

Let's work together to make your work EASIER for the CAPSEL's Final Report. Please post some of YOUR top leadership activities. All we need to start is a draft of the activity in only 1-2 sentences. And I'll join in with editing ideas and help you polish them up. :)
Remember to add NUMBERS/STATISTICS that support your activity.

Here's an example:
Your Draft: I developed a discipline policy which reduced suspensions at my school.
Polished version: I led a school committee (15 staff/parents) for 3 months to develop at 6-page schoolwide discipline policy for my middle school (1300 students). Student suspensions dropped by 35% within the first year of policy implementation.

Ok, now you try one.
Your activity should be stated in 2-3 sentences ONLY. PUT YOUR NAME IN ALL CAPS AT TOP OF YOUR COMMENT. [below the comment box, you will be asked to "Comment as". Select 'anonymous', because your name is already listed at the top of your comment in all CAPS, right?]

    SUPER SIZED: :)
Effectively led and moderated formal discussions (4) over a two-month period with all stakeholders (parents, classified staff, certificated staff, and community members) to consider affiliated charter status for the elementary school (748 student enrollment). The result was a 100% approval vote to seek affiliated charter status.

    Initial Idea:
Completed design of a new school website including researching and selecting website host, domain name, and web master.

    SUPER SIZED: :)
Recognizing the need to create a more comprehensive, relevant, and engaging school website, I led a team over a 6-month period in the redesign of the current website. Major considerations of the team involved selection and recruitment of a web master, a web hosting company, domain name, links to all teachers’ websites (27), formatting, feedback opportunities, and current and relevant information such as school contact and calendar information. This also included ongoing teacher training to design and host professional websites.

    Initial idea:
Documented appropriate guidance and support to personnel on the teaching staff. Counseled out of the teaching profession.

    SUPER SIZED:
Based on my own professional observations of a classroom teacher, I became concerned about the quality of instruction being delivered by a member of my certificated staff. I began a 3-year process of documenting appropriate guidance and support. This involved classroom observations to provide specific feedback for improvement, offering a variety of appropriate professional development workshops, and grade level peer mentors. These efforts led the teacher to recognize and reflect on her performance and skills in light of the CA Teaching Standards; and she chose not to continue as a staff member in our elementary school.

Recognizing the need to design and implement an effective Reading Intervention Program, I established and coordinated the Intervention Program to serve 100 at-risk 1st- 6th graders that were performing below grade level in reading according to benchmark assessments, formative assessments, and CST scores. I trained personnel, assessed and analyzed data, and collaborated results with all stakeholders involved (parents, teachers, & administrators) on student’s outcomes.

Effectively served as SST Coordinator for an Elementary School Site (850 students), by facilitating meetings with all stakeholders involved (teachers, parents, school psychologist, speech therapist, and ELD teacher) to develop an individualized plan to meet student’s needs. As Coordinator I scheduled and facilitated meetings, documented results of meetings, and effectively communicated with all stakeholders involved.
